MAHABHARATA

The poem of humanity, the Mahabharata, is the great epic story of whom where considered to be the Indian ancestors: the Bharata. Written between the IV century B.C. and the IV A.D., and considered one of the most sacred book in the world, this poem is still sang, danced, enacted, read, drawn, depicted through all kinds of art forms in India and abroad.

Western theatre artists have always been fascinated by eastern performing art forms, as for example Brecht and Mei Lanfang from Pechino’s opera, or the work of Artaud with the Bali’s dance; but during the twentieth century in Europe we witnessed one of the most relevant event of the century: 1985 the director Peter Brook presented “Le Mahabharata”, a performance of nine hours with an international cast that in a few years became a wonderful movie (reduced to just six hours!). Being a drama artist, classical indian dancer and researcher, I think it’s the moment to take a challenge working with this monumental poem, especially because studying and working on it I discovered deep similarity   with Shakespeare’s work: thematic, characters, philosophy, relationships, … So the challenge is to work on some of the Mahabharata’s scenes, using it as a pretext to find a new way to portray the universal and powerful messages included in it. Message that, on my opinion, can be resumed in: think, try to understand yourself and the world, and mostly act, be, or better “To be”.

Sagome Teatro organized a workshop starting on March, 20 ^th 2011 in which we will work on the play and we will produce a performance in July at PIM OFF theatre, in Milan, after three intensive days of residence at the theatre itself. We will work in English because we think it’s the most proper language for the poem, sharp and epic.

On   February, 23 ^rd 2011 Sagome Teatro will present the workshop at SIRIN association, via Vela 15 Milano at 9.00 pm, during this evening will be projected some moments of different plays and three actors will read some scenes from Mahabharata. All are welcome!

... I'm very tired.

But I have to stop some impressions if not fly away as fast as the weather!

This time the trip was ... strange ... for the first time I was not full of joy to arrive in india travel ... My neighbors were very uncommunicative and cold Nordic, while I was busy in the heat of emotion that I was leaving home .... and then I land in Chennai and I find that my sweet guardian angel, Saravanan, there will get me, I struggle to find the case when the bill go out immediately to look for a "pre-paid taxi", but I find I have to trek for a tunnel to hell people who flits sign with the names of those who are waiting, I am assailed by the blast of hot air cloudy, humid, combined with indescribable smell, which is not odoraccio, but a mixture of scents of wet earth, with cement, with exhaust gas, but also with tropical palm trees. ... I do not know is the smell of India, that when there are can not remember even more. ... Meanwhile, I realize that I must be careful with the truck, because we not only move, but are also often barefoot. ... and I figured if I hurt someone!

(except the ironing that, contrary to behave like Indians, had a physical motion of joy that I come to embrace) all treated me in an "almost normal "as if I'd never gone away and this is what I feel that India never leaves me and I'm never letting ....

But what's missing here is that India makes me feel so at ease in the timeless present in which they live and the speed of thought, word, action: no fear, the Indians seem to have no fears, but most are not afraid death, perhaps this is what makes me so much joy and desire to try, go to the bottom of things, but being light, easy passage of humans!

Guided Practica and Milonga with performance with Germano Scaperotta and Daina Pezzotti

Germano Scaperrotta dal 2001 insegna in diverse scuole milanesi. Approfondisce la sua tecnica partecipando a diversi stage in Italia e Argentina con ballerini di fama mondiale tra i quali: Teresa Cuhna, Gustavo Naveira e Giselle Anne, Pablo Veron, 'Chicho' Mariano Frumboli, Osvaldo Zotto e Lorena Ermocida. Nel 1999 inizia il suo percorso di coppia con Anna Rivolta, con la quale si esibisce e insegna in Italia. Prosegue la sua attività di insegnamento collaborando con Alberto Colombo nell'organizzazione dei corsi nell'ormai storica sede milanese del circolo ARCI Bellezza. Dal 2004 al 2009 si esibisce e tiene seminari di formazione ad Amsterdam, Londra, Parigi, Roma ed altre città europee, collaborando con Claudia Jakobsen, ballerina di tango e danza contemporanea internationally renowned. Since 2010 he teaches and performs with Daina Pezzotti.

Daina Pezzotti, a professional dancer since 1994, is formed between Italy and France, studying with leading representatives of contemporary dance. Work with some of the most important ballet companies in Italy and France. Since 1999 he has taught modern dance in schools of Milan and holds workshops in other major cities. In 2004, close to the Argentine Tango, which is now a dancer and teacher, studied in Italy and then to Buenos Aires. He studies, among others, with teachers Alberto Colombo, Alessandra Rizzotti, Moira Castellano Pablo Inza, Gustavo Naveira, Giselle Anne, Mariano Chicho Frumboli, Claudia Jackobsen, Mariela Sametband, Pablo Veron. Alongside the continuing experimentation in the study of Argentine Tango Yoga, Taiji Quan and Qi Gong.
Since 2010 he teaches and performs with Germano Scaperotta.
